This document analyses the process of requesting Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) in criminal matters from Canadian authorities, with a particular focus on the gathering of electronic evidence. It provides information on the basis for cooperation, scope of assistance, requirements for MLA requests, grounds for refusal, contact information for the Canadian Central Authority for MLA, and information on limitations of use of provided evidence. It also includes a list of international agreements on the basis of which MLA from Canada can be requested, as well as an easy to follow flowchart and a description of the required steps for submitting MLA requests to Canada.
