Selection and recruitment process

Eurojust strives to provide candidates with a simple, fair and transparent application and selection process, the different stages of which are outlined in the tabs below.

Please note that the following information refers to vacancies for Temporary Agents and Contract Agents. Should you be interested in the position of a Seconded National Expert or in an internship, please see the respective pages.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, all selection-related written tests and interviews are taking place remotely.

How to apply

To apply for a position at Eurojust, please visit Eurojust’s eRecruitment site. You will be asked to create and validate your applicant account. Please note that open applications or applications sent by any other means will not be considered. All correspondence during the application processes will take place via email, so please ensure that the email address associated with your account is correct and that you check your inbox regularly.

After creating your profile, you will be able to fill out an application form for a specific vacancy. All sections of the form must be completed in English. Please pay attention to the vacancy closing date, as applications received after this date will not be considered. To avoid potential problems, candidates are advised to submit their application well ahead of the deadline.

Having submitted your application, you will receive an automatic email from Eurojust acknowledging receipt. You will be able to view the recruitment status of your application by logging in to the recruitment portal and consulting the ‘My Applications’ page. Eurojust’s Recruitment team will inform you by email of the outcome of your application.

Selection and interview

A Selection Board appointed by the Administrative Director of Eurojust will assess your application against the requirements set out in the vacancy notice. If you are shortlisted as one of the most suitable applicants for the position, you will usually be invited to an interview and a written test. Other assessment methods can be included, for example assessment centres for managerial selections.

The interview and written test will be conducted in English, though knowledge of other EU languages declared in your application may also be tested. As part of the selection process, you will need to provide the following documents supporting the information given in your application:

  • original ID card or passport;
     
  • legible copies of diplomas or certificates indicating the start and end date of your studies (if your diploma is issued outside the European Union, you must provide a certificate of equivalency from an EU Member State);
     
  • copies of contracts, employment statements or other official documents confirming the dates for each period of employment;
     
  • a copy of your most recent payslip; and
     
  • relevant language certificates.

Reserve list and offer

Based on the success of your interview and written test, you may be placed on a reserve list of suitable candidates, which may result in an offer of employment. The reserve list may be used when recruiting for similar positions in the future. In such cases, you may be invited to a second, informal interview at a later stage. The list is typically valid for two to three years (this information is included in each vacancy notice). Please note that placement on a reserve list does not guarantee employment at Eurojust.

If offered a position at Eurojust, you will be asked to:

  • provide a ‘certificate of good character;
     
  • undergo a pre-employment medical examination to ensure that you are fit to perform your duties; and
     
  • undergo a security screening process.

Reimbursement and confidentiality

You may claim reimbursement for travel expenses incurred as a result of your interviews, as well as any pre-employment medical examination. Please consult our reimbursement policy for further information.

Please note that the selection process is strictly confidential, and candidates are forbidden from making any contact with the members of the Selection Board, either directly or indirectly. Any infringement of this rule will lead to disqualification from the selection procedure. Appeal procedures

If your application to Eurojust has been rejected or you have been found to be ineligible for a position, you may request a review of the decision. You also have the right to appeal the decision or to raise a complaint if you believe your interests have been prejudiced in any way.


How to request a reconsideration of your application

To have the decision regarding your application reconsidered, please submit a request in writing to recruitment@eurojust.europa.eu, clearly stating your reasons. This request must be made within 10 calendar days after receiving your initial notification from Eurojust. The Selection Board will reconsider your application and notify you of its decision within 30 calendar days after receiving the request.


Procedure for complaints and appeals

If you believe your interests may have been prejudiced by any decision related to the selection procedure, you may wish to raise a complaint by writing to the Administrative Director of Eurojust. Please send your complaint to Eurojust’s registered postal address, or, if communicating by e-mail, to recruitment@eurojust.europa.eu, quoting the reference number of the vacancy for which you have applied. Your complaint must be submitted within three months of receiving the original notification about your application.

You may also submit an appeal before the Court of Justice of the European Union. Please send your appeal by post to: General Court, Court of Justice of the European Union, Rue du Fort Niedergrünewald, L-2925 Luxembourg. Please submit your appeal within three months of the original notification about your application.

If you believe you have been the victim of maladministration, you may also make a complaint to the European Ombudsman within two years of first becoming aware of the issue. Please address your complaint to: European Ombudsman, 1 Avenue du President Robert Schuman – BP 403 F-67001 Strasbourg Cedex 4.
