The annual meeting on counter-terrorism gathered national correspondents for Eurojust for terrorism matters, specialised prosecutors from both EU Member States and third countries, as well as representatives from EU institutions and international organisations.
The event was opened by the Vice-President of Eurojust, Mr Boštjan Škrlec, and Ms Hilde Vandevoorde, National Member for Belgium and Chair of the Eurojust Counter-Terrorism Team. Insights into the main priorities in countering terrorism were also shared by representatives of the Office of the EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator and the European Commission. The meeting was held in a hybrid format, with participants joining remotely and in person at the Agency’s premises, on 16-17 November.
On the first day, participants discussed the European Judicial Counter-Terrorism Register and cross-border investigations into the financing of terrorism. The second day was dedicated to the impact that migrant smuggling has on terrorism. Participants also shared examples of the legal challenges they face in counter-terrorism proceedings.
