This document analyses the process of requesting Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) in criminal matters from United Kingdom (UK) authorities, particularly focusing on the gathering of electronic evidence. It provides information on the basis for cooperation, scope of assistance, requirements for MLA requests (including for specific types of requests), grounds for refusal and the different UK Central Authorities and their distinct responsibilities. It also includes a list of international agreements on the basis of which MLA from the UK can be requested.
