The Digital Services Act (DSA) is a new EU legislative act protecting the digital space against the spread of illegal content and at the same time ensure the protection of users’ fundamental rights by creating a safe and trusted online environment.
The DSA will be applicable to a large category of online services, such as online marketplaces, social networks, content-sharing platforms, app stores, and online travel and accommodation platforms, which are often used by the criminals to disseminate illegal copyright-protected content. The factsheet provides an overview of the new liability regime and due diligence obligations imposed on service providers to address societal risks posed by the provision of services and dissemination of content, as well as the relationship between the DSA and the Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market.
