Parcel post drug traffickers arrested during international operation

26 June 2026|PRESS RELEASE

A criminal group has been taken down following an international operation by French and Spanish authorities, together with Eurojust and Europol. The group is suspected of smuggling large quantities of cannabis from Spain to France using parcel delivery services.

During an action week between 15 and 19 June, 10 suspects were arrested and 24 searches were executed. The searches led to the seizure of over EUR 278 000 in cash and EUR 111 000 on bank accounts, cannabis and other drugs, fire arms, phones and cars.

The coordinated operation is the result of cooperation under the coordination by Eurojust. Investigators came together several times at the Agency’s headquarters in The Hague to exchange information and plan the action week. Eurojust also ensured the execution of European Arrest Warrant and European Investigation Orders, key to the success of the joint operation.

Europol facilitated information exchange between the French and Spanish authorities and provided analytical support throughout the investigation. The Agency also deployed its experts to both countries during the action week to support the enforcement activity.

The criminal group used parcel delivery networks to transport cannabis from Spain to France. Three suspects were at the centre of the drug trafficking operation, two based in Spain who coordinated shipments and one based in France who further distributed the cannabis upon arrival. To avoid detection, false identities were used to send the parcels.

Investigations into the criminal group revealed a well-organised operation that resulted in high illicit profits. Authorities identified at least 114 parcels since September 2024, containing around 1.4 tonnes of cannabis. Cash generated from the drug sales were concealed in parcels and sent back to Spain. It is estimated that the criminal group’s assets are worth approximately EUR 4 million.

The actions were carried out by the following authorities:

  • France: Investigative judge of JIRS Rennes (Interregional Specialised Jurisdiction) and OFAST (National Office against Drug Trafficking) Rennes Unit
  • Spain: International Cooperation Section PPO Barcelona and Investigative Court num 7 in Gavà; International Cooperation Section of PPO Antidrug and Central Investigative Court num 3 at Audiencia Nacional
