On 3–4 December 2025, Eurojust hosted the 22nd CrimEx meeting in The Hague as part of the 6th phase of the EuroMed Justice (EMJ) Project. The event brought together criminal justice representatives from seven South Partner Countries (SPCs) and seven European Union Member States. Participants focused on technical and strategic aspects of international judicial cooperation, exchanging insights on challenges and best practices in combating trafficking in human beings and migrant smuggling.
The 22nd CrimEx meeting provided an update on the activities of the EMJ project. Theoutcomes from the 6th EMJNet meeting focusing on drug trafficking were shared for the CrimEx representatives’ consideration and discussion, with the aim to identify consolidated input to be transmitted to the EuroMed PG Forum during its next meeting planned for summer 2026. CrimEx representatives were also invited to have strategic exchanges on challenges and best practices related to trafficking in human beings/migrant smuggling and asset recovery.
Additionally, recently organised TAF activities were presented: The EuroMed Justice Project team reported on an operational meeting organised in Greece on migrant smuggling. A representative from the Palestinian delegation also shared his experience as a co-requester of a TAF activity on the strengthening of South Partner Countries capacities and judicial cooperation in relation to money laundering investigations and asset recovery, which took place in The Hague in November.
On the first day of the meeting, and taking the opportunity of the presence of representatives from Latin America and Western Balkan, heads of delegations from the South Partner Countries joined a session on “The globalisation of crime and the need for a global house of justice”, followed by an official reception at Eurojust, gathering more than 50 jurisdictions from around the word.
The meeting introduced the upcoming EuroMed Justice training programme for 2026–2027, to be implemented by the SAFE-EPLO consortium. The programme will include joint trainings for SPCs and EU Member States, as well as Train the Trainers (ToT) sessions.
In the margins of the main discussions, 14 bilateral meetings took place between the delegations and with Eurojust.
The same week, the EuroMed Justice project facilitated the visit of the Ministry of Justice from Lebanon to Eurojust, following the signature on the 2 December of an International Agreement on judicial cooperation with Eurojust the day before in Brussels.
