Around 60 prosecutors from EU Member States and neighbouring countries gathered in Alicante on 10 and 11 September for the 13th annual workshop of the European Intellectual Property Prosecutors Network (EIPPN), organised by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in cooperation with Eurojust.
The two-day workshop provided prosecutors working on intellectual property (IP) crime cases with an opportunity to exchange practical experience, discuss recent legislative and jurisprudential developments, and strengthen international judicial cooperation.
The workshop was preceded on 9 September by a dedicated inter-regional meeting for prosecutors and practitioners from the Western Balkans, Armenia, Moldova and Ukraine.
Eurojust was represented by its Assistant to the National Member for the Netherlands, Ms Petra Gruppelaar, who presented a selection of Eurojust cases involving IP crime and highlighted the close cooperation between the two organisations. Particular attention was given to the new Service Level Agreement between Eurojust and EUIPO, which entered into force in 2026 and will remain in place until 2028, further strengthening the framework for cooperation between the two organisations.
The meetings also support the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT), under which IP crime is one of the EU crime priorities for the 2026–2029 cycle. By bringing together prosecutors and practitioners from different jurisdictions, these meetings contribute to strengthening judicial cooperation and developing more effective responses to cross-border IP crime.
The cooperation between Eurojust and EUIPO will continue, with the next edition of the EIPPN’s meeting planned to be hosted by Eurojust in 2027.
