Eurojust President Michael Schmid and Mr Filippo Spiezia, National Member for Italy, welcomed members of the Italian Superior Council of the Judiciary, including Mr Fabio Pinelli, Vice-President of the Italian Superior Council of the Judiciary, to Eurojust’s headquarters. The delegation consisted also of the President of the Ninth Council Commission, Dr. Edoardo Cilenti; and the Vice President of the Ninth Commission, Attorney Enrico Aimi.
During the visit, the 2025 Annual Report of the Italian Desk at Eurojust was officially presented, highlighting the achievements of the past year demonstrating the increasingly central role it plays to national investigations and criminal proceedings. The visit further focussed on the revision of the Eurojust Regulation and the Agency’s work prospectives and strategic priorities. At this occasion Vice President Pinelli confirmed Italy’s commitment to supporting ever-deeper integration among European judicial authorities by stating: In a globalized world, where technological developments that were unimaginable a few years ago occur, international cooperation is key in fighting all forms of crime. In this context, Eurojust represents an indispensable cornerstone. The technical and operational support it provides to national judicial authorities is the driving force that enables us to overcome jurisdictional barriers, ensuring security and justice throughout the European area.
The digitization of international judicial cooperation, aimed at making judicial cooperation increasingly agile, modern, and effective in facing global criminal threats are a centrepiece of these efforts.
