As part of the ongoing Italian investigation, Eurojust coordinated the cooperation with Dutch authorities that led to the seizure of assets worth EUR 55 million.

The investigation is looking into the company, its representative and the parent company in the Netherlands. Allegedly, they benefited from public funds to which they were not entitled, linked to a solar power plant built in Caserta. The suspects produced false documents to make it appear that three large-scale solar power plants had been completed before the deadline set by sector regulations. By claiming to deliver the plants early, the suspects obtained benefits from public funds.

Eurojust facilitated cooperation between the Dutch and Italian authorities in the investigation. This revealed that liability for the misappropriation could extend to the parent company in the Netherlands, as the offence is suspected to have been committed in the interests of the parent company and the directors of both companies.

During an action day on 23 April, assets worth over EUR 55 million were seized, including cash and real estate, equal to the amount of profit derived from the alleged offence.

The actions were carried out by the following authorities:

  • Italy: Public Prosecutor’s Office Rome; Guardia di Finanza – Economic Financial Department Bari
  • Netherlands: Public Prosecutor’s Office for Serious Fraud, Environmental Crime and Asset Confiscation
