The Hague, 31 July 2013
On 17 July, the European Commission published a proposal for a Regulation on Eurojust. Eurojust will hold a meeting on 14 and 15 October 2013 in The Hague to discuss the reform of Eurojust, to which representatives of the Member States, EU institutions and academics will be invited.
Eurojust’s President, Ms Michèle Coninsx, commented: “The coming months will pave the way for a “Lisbonised” Eurojust. Greater democratic accountability of Eurojust goes hand in hand with the possibility to strengthen Eurojust’s operational capabilities. A gradual enhancement of options in judicial cooperation is needed to tackle the increasingly flexible and complex nature of criminal networks and to continue the fight against crimes with a cross-border dimension”.
Eurojust’s Annual Report and newsletters provide an insight into Eurojust’s work. These publications are available on the Eurojust website.
Eurojust was formally established as the European Union’s judicial coordination unit in 2002 to support and strengthen coordination and cooperation between national investigation and prosecution authorities of the Member States when dealing with serious cross-border crime.
