Mr Harri Tiesmaa appointed as new National Member for Finland at Eurojust

The Hague, 12 September 2011

01 August 2011, Mr Harri Tiesmaa was appointed National Member for Finland at Eurojust. In accordance with Article 2(1) of the Eurojust Decision, the appointment was approved by the Secretary General of the European Council and became effective.

The former National Member for Finland, Mrs Sahavirta, will stay at Eurojust as Deputy National Member for Finland.

Mr Tiesmaa is acquainted with Eurojust, as he was a Seconded National Expert for his country between 01 September 2009 and 28 February 2010. After this period of six months, he returned to Finland to continue his career as a prosecutor specialised in economic crimes, which he started in 1999. In that respect, he has been one of the key prosecutors educating investigators of economic crimes, customs officers, tax officers, attorneys, judges and other prosecutors.

Mr Tiesmaa is also specialised in cybercrime and crimes against intellectual property. Between 1991 and 1999 Mr Tiesmaa was a district prosecutor in Helsinki.

Mr Tiesmaa commented: “It is a great honour to have been appointed National Member. I am very happy that I will be able to use the professional experience that I gathered in the past in my new function."
