Visit of Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine

Yesterday, Eurojust hosted the visit of Mr Yevhenii Yenin, Deputy Prosecutor General for Ukraine. Mr Yenin was accompanied by Ms Myroslava Krasnoborova, Deputy Head of Department for International Legal Cooperation- Head of Division for International Cooperation and Eurojust contact point for Ukraine, Mr Roman Hovda, Prosecutor of Kyiv City, and H.E. Mr Vsevolod Chentsov, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Mr Ladislav Hamran, President of Eurojust, hosted the visit, along with Mr Lukáš Starý, National Member for the Czech Republic and Chair of Eurojust’s External Relations Team, and other members of the External Relations Team, including Ms Laima Čekelienė, National Member for Lithuania, Mr Josip Čule, National Member for Croatia, and Ms Solveig Wollstad, National Member for Sweden. The meeting was organised at the request of the Ukrainian authorities, following the entry into force of the Cooperation Agreement with Ukraine in September 2017, to discuss practical issues of the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement, as well as ways of strengthening Eurojust-Ukraine cooperation, particularly in the fields of combatting terrorism, cybercrime and THB.

After a welcoming word and an introduction to Eurojust’s relations with third States by Messrs Hamran and Starý, Mr Frédéric Baab, National Member for France, Ms Daniela Buruiană, National Member for Romania, and Mr Starý then gave presentations, respectively, on the added value of Eurojust in supporting the Member States in combatting terrorism, cybercrime and THB.

Background:
Yevhenii Yenin was appointed Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine in June 2016. He holds a Ph.D. in political science. After working in the Security Service and the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine from 2002 – 2005, Mr Yenin was posted at the Embassy of Ukraine to Moldova from 2005 – 2009. His next position was at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, responsible for Romania, Moldova and the Balkans. He then served as Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of Ukraine to the Italian Republic before his appointment as Deputy Prosecutor General.
