Vicente Javier González Mota joined Eurojust in September 2017 as the new Seconded National Expert for Counter-Terrorism. Among his tasks will be supporting the National Desks in operational work and acting as a bridge between Eurojust and the European Counter Terrorism Centre (ECTC) at Europol to facilitate an early judicial follow up of the ECTC activities and a full use of Eurojust's coordination tools.
On 26 October 2017, the ECTC placement agreement was signed by Michele Coninsx, President of Eurojust, and Rob Wainwright, Director of Europol. This agreement outlines the ways in which Mr González Mota will operate between Eurojust and the ECTC.
Mr González Mota began his legal career as a prosecutor in Barcelona, Spain, in 1988. In 2005, he was appointed Prosecutor at the National Court (Audiencia Nacional), the only court in Spain with responsibility for dealing with terrorism cases. He still holds that position, and he had been the national correspondent for Eurojust for terrorism matters (NCT) for Spain from 2011 to 2017. Mr González Mota was interviewed in the latest Eurojust News issue #15 on counter-terrorism.
