On 14 July 2017, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Elyes Ghariani, visited Eurojust and met with Michèle Coninsx, President, and Klaus Meyer-Cabri, Vice-President.
The aim of the visit was to discuss possibilities for increased cooperation between Eurojust and Tunisia in tackling the transnational threats posed by terrorism, illegal immigrant smuggling and cybercrime. Eurojust emphasised the valuable role of the contact points appointed by Tunisia in assisting the facilitation of the execution of mutual legal assistance requests addressed by the EU Member States to the Tunisian judicial authorities.
The visit built up on the relevant actions agreed at the EU-Tunisia Counter Terrorism and Security Political Dialogue in January 2017 and on the outcomes of the study visit by a Tunisian delegation to Eurojust in February.
Ambassador Ghariani has served in diplomatic posts in France, Germany and Belgium before taking up duties this year in the Netherlands. Since 2015, he has been the Secretary of State, Diplomatic Advisor to the Head of Government.
