On 7 June, Michael Center, Regional Security Advisor of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), visited Eurojust. Mr Center was welcomed by Michèle Coninsx, the President of Eurojust.
Mr Center is in the process of establishing a new regional office for the UNDSS in Brussels, with a focus on building relationships and establishing non-operational information-sharing mechanisms with security services in the Member States and third States, as well as with international organisations. The goal of the UNDSS is to improve the UN’s understanding of risks arising from extremism in Europe, and how to bridge gaps in understanding the capabilities of extremists and the challenges they pose to judicial and law enforcement authorities.
Eurojust, with its expertise in counter-terrorism, can be a trusted partner to organisations such as the United Nations when dealing with risks arising from extremism.
The UNDSS provides training to UN staff, security professionals and managers with security responsibilities within the UN.
