A group of officials from the Homeland Security, Justice and Foreign Affairs committees of the US Congress visited Eurojust today in the context of an on-site seminar on the functioning of the EU institutions. The objective of the visit was to increase awareness of the functioning of the EU and its action in the area of security and migration. The visit was organised by the Delegation of the European Union to the USA. A similar study visit was hosted by Eurojust in October 2016.
The Eurojust hosts were the President of Eurojust, the National Members for France and for Romania, the Head of the JITs Network Secretariat, the judicial expert on cybercrime and Eurojust representative to the European Cybercrime Centre, and the Liaison Prosecutor for Switzerland at Eurojust.
Eurojust explained its operational support to the Member States in the fight against terrorism, illegal immigrant smuggling and cybercrime, with case illustrations highlighting international success stories. Additional focus was placed on relations with EC3 and third States, as well as the role of JITs, especially highlighting the fruitful cooperation with the USA. A lively question and answer session ended the visit.
