Montenegro is a priority country of the Eurojust External Relations Team in seeking to initiate negotiations for a cooperation agreement. The requirements for the negotiations were discussed in this fruitful meeting. Formal negotiations have yet to commence. To date, the Data Protection Office of Eurojust has completed the assessment of the new Data Protection Law of Montenegro.
Until a cooperation agreement is established, Eurojust cases with Montenegro are dealt with via its nominated contact point in Montenegro.
Talks on Montenegro’s accession to the EU began in June 2012. One of the pending requirements for EU accession on justice, freedom and security, is the conclusion of a cooperation agreement between Eurojust and Montenegro.
