With the financial support from the Prevention of and Fight against Crime Programme
of the European Union.
European Commission - Directorate-General Home Affairs
The objective of the grant received from the European Commission is to allow for the financial and logistical support of Joint Investigation Teams (JITs). With the grant, Eurojust intends to meet perceived difficulties with JITs. This is consistent with the strengthened role provided for Eurojust regarding JITs in the new Eurojust Decision.
Eurojust considers it important to support JITs financially, by assisting with two main common areas of expenditure, namely travel and accommodation and interpretation/translation costs. Further, to address locally lacking facilities/ infrastructure, following duly substantiated requests, a small number of laptops and mobile phones (Blackberry) are available. However, Eurojust has not received funding from the Commission in order to finance the entirety of a JIT nor does it seek to do so.
In addition to assisting with financial aspects, it is also important to gather information, so allowing a proper analysis of JIT activity. Such analysis would include information on the quantity and duration of JITs and the types of crimes targeted by them. This would assist the Commission and Council to provide support needed and address any shortcomings.
