The Operations Unit sets out to deliver day-to-day support to the case-related operational work of Eurojust, in particular by providing analytical and legal assistance to national desks in cases that the EU Member States authorities send to Eurojust for judicial cooperation and coordination. The Operations Unit further supports Eurojust core business by ensuring accurate use of casework related technical tools, such as the Case Management System. Finally, it provides case-based policy support in crime areas and judicial cooperation. Practically, this means that the Operations Unit prepares case notes (legal and/or analytical) or supports the exchange of information with counterparts, such as Europol.
The Unit also drafts contributions of Eurojust’s experience in cases in priority crime areas, for instance in the field of terrorism or cybercrime, or we contribute to policy making for judicial cooperation instruments, such as the European Arrest Warrant. The policy type documents are prepared following a prioritisation decision of the College of Eurojust, along with a decision by the College on the distribution of such reports, for instance during a dedicated meeting on migrant smuggling or to a network of contact points in counter-terrorism matters.
The Unit has three sectors: Casework, Data Management and Policy Work (Judicial Cooperation Instruments/Crime areas).
